Internationally recognized flutists Rose Bishop and Heather Neuenschwander are excited to present their new album Unseen//Unheard. The first of its kind, this album is being released through Strange Moon Records on Friday, September 26, 2025.

United by a commitment to commissioning and programming new music, Rose and Heather collaborated to create an album entirely of newly commissioned duets for alto and bass flute, a combination that had previously been relatively unexplored compared to other combinations. Continuing with the theme of Unseen//Unheard, Heather and Rose wanted to showcase their love of these instruments by commissioning a select group of underrepresented composers, many of whom they had worked with in the past. As two women, they set out to create an album that highlights other underrepresented artists and showcases two instruments that are less commonly seen or heard in the music world.

The composers commissioned include Nicole Chamberlain, Timothy Hagen, Leanna Li Keith, Zachery Meier, Alyssa Mercedes Mena, Lisa Neher, Arturo Rodriguez, Sonya Leonore Stahl, Julie Stone, and Yoshi Weinberg. All pieces were commissioned and written within the past three years by one or both of them. Rose and Heather divided the pieces so that they are each equally playing alto and bass on the album.

Unseen//Unheard was engineered by Lewis Fawcett, mixed by Carter Broszeit, mastered by Greg Dixon, designed by Alex Allen and features artwork by Hal Ide. It was recorded at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, who graciously donated their recording hall and equipment for this project. 

Rose and Heather will celebrate with an album release recital featuring the world premiere of six of the pieces from the album on the evening of September 26 at 7 PM at the James Theatre in Iowa City. This event is free and open to the public. This project was generously funded in full by the Art Project Grant from the Iowa Arts Council.
