body of breath is a concept album by Leanna Keith of the bass flute as a living, breathing, organism. Backed by live and pre-recorded processed electronics, Leanna creates shifting surrealist soundscapes, utilizing the unique timbre and extended technique possibilities of the bass flute as a solo instrument. Each piece was written with Leanna’s performance in mind, expanding the limited repertoire of the bass flute. The tracks explore identity, storytelling through time, organic processes, and the creation of self through breath.

Diaspora (流散) is accordionist Josh Hou’s latest release and third album as a solo-bandleader. Continuing in the trajectory established by his first two records, he digs deeper into immigrant identity with a collection of music exploring the diasporic experience. The album features an expanded band, consisting of a frontline of Ray Larsen on trumpet and Alex Chuang on cello, backed by a rhythm section of Kelsey Mines on bass and Tai Taitano on drums. The music consists of songs from his Chinese and Malaysian heritage, as well as new compositions that reflect on life here, in relationship and connection to diaspora.

In her words, “It’s a behemoth.” From the ever-expanding space of jazz cymbals, flute, and harp, down to the folksy pluck of her banjo — a prized recent acquisition — and the grounding chords of her great-great-great grandmother's piano, which shipped up the Missouri River to the family homestead in Montana.
